Chester: Municipality Exploring LED Street Lights

The Municipality of Chester is moving ahead with a more efficient source of street lights. Councillors have decided to move ahead with purchasing LED lighting from Nova Scotia Power. Warden Allen Webber says the municipality will have to absorb $250,000 for the existing light fixtures, and pay roughly $500,000 to buy and install the new lights. He expects both costs to be covered by gas tax funding.

Webber says the municipality first indicated they weren't going to participate and have NS Power remove 815 street lights, but they've since had a change in heart. He expects more progress on the issue following next year's budget.
