LISTEN: Jenna Martin Interviews Pre And Post-Race

Jenna Martin took some time to speak with CKBW/HANK-FM before and after her first ever Olympic race in London, England. In case you didn't get a chance to hear her on-the-air, we've uploaded them for you to listen to. First up is Jenna Martin before her first Olympic competition.



Now, here's Jenna Martin following her third place finish in the third heat of the women's 400 metre qualifying race.



Martin will compete in the semi-finals at 4:05 Atlantic Standard Time Saturday evening. She is in heat one and will run in lane nine.

B.C.'s Svensson Wins Canadian Junior Golf Title

The Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship is heading back to British Columbia. Adam Svensson shot a 7-under, 64 in today's final round at Osprey Ridge to win the title by two shots over defending champ Kevin Kwon of B.C. and Ontario's Luke Moser. Svensson finished the tournament the only golfer to finish under par. His total was 1-under. Local golfer Matt Gallupe finished in a tie for 35th while Ryan Nowe tied for 58th. With the win, Svensson earns an exemption into this year's Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship, taking place August 7-10 in Cumberland, Ontario.

Home Invasion: RCMP Lay 36 Charges in Lunenburg

Police have laid 36 charges against four individuals after a home invasion last week near Lunenburg. The accused forced their way into a home on Kissing Road Bridge and beat two men with baseball bats. In addition, eight others were sprayed with bear spray. The charges include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter, mischief and multiple breached. Two men have been served with court documents while two others remain at large.

Fire Ban Lifted Across Nova Scotia

A ban on open fires in all areas of Nova Scotia has ended. However, the Department of Natural resources is urging reisdents to continue using caution when having fires in or around woodlands. Spokesperson Jim Rudderham reminds everyone that it is still fire season, and to have the means to control or extinguish their fires. A provincial burning permit is required when having a fire within three hundred and five metres of the woods. Landowners should also contact a municipal government office to see if they require any additional permits.

Viewing Party's Set For Martin on Saturday



Bridgewater and Caledonia will host viewing party's for Jenna Martin semi-final race on Saturday. The event will be held at Town Hall in Bridgewater and at the Fire Hall in Caledonia at 3:30PM. Martin will run at 4:00PM our time with a chance to earn a berth in the final of the women's 400 metre sprint.

Lunenburg: Zwicker Changes Mind - Seeks Re-Election

A veteran councillor in Lunenburg has changed his mind and will re-offer in the upcoming municipal elections. Peter Zwicker announced in June he was set to walk away from municipal politics. However, Zwicker says he's changed his mind after residents encouraged him to stay at the municipal forefront. In a press release, Zwicker says he wants to build strong relationships with neighbouring municipalities. Zwicker has spent the last eight years on town council in Lunenburg. He believes the town will need a veteran council to help move the town forward.

Slight Change In Gasoline Prices


Fill'er up? When you pop by your favourite service station today to gas up, you'll notice very little change in prices. For instance, the price of a litre of regular self serve is unchanged at $1.27.3.  Diesel is down a bit though.  Its selling at $1.28.5. Thats a cent and a half lower than yesterday.

Jenna Martin is one step closer to an Olympic medal. The 24-year-old finished third this morning, running 51.98 seconds, good enough to move ahead to the women's 400 metre semi-finals. Close to 80 people showed up to Bridgewater town hall to watch Martin run. Mayor Carroll Publicover is proud of Martin's accomplishment.



Martin will run her semi-final tomorrow at 4:05. Bridgewater town hall will open its doors once again to broadcast the event. Doors are expected to open around 3:30pm. Montreal's Knight Leads After 54 Holes At Osprey Ridge

A Montreal golfer has a one stroke lead heading into today's final round at the Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship at Osprey Ridge. Daniel Knight sits at one-over-par after 54 holes, ahead of Ontario's Luke Moser and Ryan Borg. Local golfer Matt Gallupe is nine shots behind the leader at 10-over-par. Ryan Nowe is also in the field, in a tie for 65th. Meanwhile, British Columbia captured the Inter-Provincial Team Championship title with a playoff win over Ontario. The team event takes the best two of three player scores each day over the first 36 holes. Nova Scotia finished fourth.
