Queens Place To Host World Junior 'A' Exhibition Game


Some big news for Queens Place Emera Centre and the local Maritime Hockey League team. The 2012 World Junior 'A' Challenge Host Committee announced today that Liverpool will host the Czech Republic team for a two-day training camp November 1st and 2nd. An exhibition game between the Czechs and the CIBC Wood Gundy Lumberjacks is also planned for November 2nd. Tickets for the exhibition game will be available starting Monday for $15 on the Hockey Canada website or at Queens Place Emera Centre. The 2012 World Junior 'A' Challenge will be held November 5-11 in Yarmouth and features teams from the Czech Republic, Russia, United States, Switzerland, Canada West and Canada East.

Student's Car Damaged After Trip On Forties Road


A Lunenburg County university student is facing a hefty repair bill following a drive on the ragged Forties Road in Lunenburg County. The road from New Ross to East Dalhousie is uneven and features some deep divots and hasn't seen any new pavement in over a decade. Chester councillor Cheryl Scott says she received a letter from a young woman indicating her car sustained $500 in damage after a recent drive on the rough stretch of road.



Scott says the road is so bad, businesses are losing customers because no one wants to drive on the road. The Nova Scotia government has recognized the road needs new pavement but offered no timeline as to when that may happen.

Call For Action As Gas Prices Increase Again!


A big jump in South Shore gasoline prices overnight. Regular self serve is selling today for $1.44 per litre ... thats a 5 cent increase from yesterday. Diesel is ... down ... slightly to $1.35.6 .... thats a cent and a half lower. Heating oil is down by a similar amount. Canadian Taxpayers Federation Atlantic President Kevin Lacey tells us .... consumers are being taxed-to-death on gasoline and its making life even more difficult.



Lacey says the only winner in all of this is the government which collects millions in tax revenues from gasoline sales.

Bantam 'AA' Bulldogs In Cole Harbour For Atlantics


Another Bridgewater baseball team is getting the chance to bring home an Atlantic title. The Bantam 'AA' Bulldogs are in Cole Harbour this weekend for the Atlantic Championships, featuring the top teams from the Maritimes and Newfoundland. Bridgewater opens up play at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon against Dartmouth. The Bulldogs also take on Lancaster, New Brunswick Friday night at 8pm, PEI Saturday afternoon at 1pm and Gander, Newfoundland Sunday at 11am. The top two teams after the round robin will meet in the Championship game Sunday afternoon. The Peewee 'AAA' Bulldogs brought home bronze in their Atlantics last weekend in Newfoundland. Three Games In Three Days For Mustangs


A busy start to the regular season for the South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs. The local major midget club is on the road Friday night in Berwick to open their regular season against the Valley Wildcats. The Mustangs then travel back to Bridgewater for a two game series against the Cape Breton West Islanders. The Stangs host the Islanders Saturday night at 8pm and Sunday morning at 10:45 at the Bridgewater Memorial Arena..

Chester: Old Stone Bridge Heritage Designation


The Old Stone Bridge in Chester will receive its official heritage designation during an event later today. MLA Denise Peterson-Rafuse will unveil a provincial heritage plaque at the little bridge on Victoria Street symbolizing its rich history. The bridge was designated a provincial heritage property in April. It's the first structure in the province to receive such designation that is not a building or property. The bridge dates back to the late 1800's and still sees regular traffic.

Ready, Set .. Here We Go - Jacks Hockey Returns!

It'll be a big night tonight at the Bridgewater Arena. The new Maritime Hockey League season is getting underway and the CIBC Wood Gundy Lumberjacks will be hitting the ice in their home opener. Action begins at 7 o'clock as the Lumberjacks host their rivals, the Yarmouth Mariners. During the exhibition season prior to tonight's game, the Jacks racked up two wins and two losses.
-- Next Tuesday night, the Lumberjacks organization will honour local Olympian, Jenna Martin. She recently competed at the 2012 London Olympics and set personal best times while qualifying just prior to the games. Martin will be honoured during the game at the Bridgewater Arena when the Jacks host Pictou at 7:30 (Tuesday night).



Big Hike In South Shore Gasoline Prices


Hope you topped up your gas tank before midnight last night. As expected, gasoline prices at South Shore pumps have taken a hike this morning. Following on the heals of a similar increase in New Brunswick the night before, this province's utility and review board set prices overnight here. Regular self serve is selling this morning for a dollar-44 a litre ... thats a 5 cent increase from yesterday. Diesel is down though to a dollar-35-point 6 .... thats a cent and a half lower. Heating oil is down by a similar amount.
