South Shore: Early Tourism Numbers Show Promise

It's been a solid start to the season for many tourism operators along the South Shore. Several operators report a higher than normal traffic flow for the month of May. In Lunenburg, mayor Laurence Mawhinney believes the conference scene in Halifax and the nice weather has played a significant role in boosting visits in the town. However, Mawhinney says its hard to predict how the rest of the season will fair, especially during an election year in the United States.

The town has also thrown its support behind efforts to restore the Yarmouth to Maine ferry service. Mawhinney called it the missing link right now for many tourism operators along the South Shore.
