Lunenburg Lighthouse Nominated For Protection

A historic lighthouse in Lunenburg has been nominated for special designation. The Lunenburg Waterfront Association has nominated the Battery Point Lighthouse for designation under the federal Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act. The lighthouse was de-commissioned in 1987 but the structure as it's known today has been standing since 1951. Chair of the Waterfront Association, Allen Cresser says the structure has a storied past since its been perched at the end of the Battery Point Breakwater.

Approximately 350 lighthouses across the country have been nominated for such designation with nearly 95 of them located in Nova Scotia. The federal government will determine which lighthouses will be designated as heritage over the next three years.
