A horrifying story has a tragic ending for a young Toronto-area woman attacked by wild animals. RCMP confirm a 19 year-old woman who was attacked Tuesday by two coyotes while hiking on the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highland National Park has died. The women sustained serious injuries the attack. At 3:15, Cheticamp RCMP received a 911 call that a hiker was being attacked by two coyotes. On arrival at the scene, RCMP found the young woman in serious condition. She wa airlifted to hospital in Halifax for medical attention where she later died of her injuries. For officer and public safety, an RCMP member shot and killed one of the coyotes that continued be aggressive. One coyote escaped into the woods.

Doe, a Deer
If you wanting to hunt antlerless deer - or does- in certain sections of Lunenburg and Queens counties this fall, you won't be required to apply for a special permit to do that. The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says antlerless deer permits will not be required in Zone 2A, a result of the province’s efforts to reduce deer populations in that district. Zone 2A takes in an area that stretches roughly from East River westerly to the Medway River and inland from the Atlantic Coast to a multi-line power transmission corridor that runs from Halifax to Queens County.

Moose Draw

Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 moose draw lottery. 336 licences will be offered through the lottery this year. Natural Resources Minister Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says last year, hunters took 274 moose in Nova Scotia. Phone lines for the 2009 moose licence draw are open from April 1st to May 31st. Licences will be drawn June 23rd and successful applicants will receive notice by mail, or can go to the government of Nova Scotia's moose draw website or contact a local Department of Natural Resources office to determine if they won.
