No Shooting

Queens RCMP say an incident Friday night reported as a shooting in Charleston turned out to be an accident involving a man on an ATV. Staff Sergeant Bruno Deveau tells CKBW it started with a 9-1-1 call that ended abruptly around 5:15 Friday. Another call came in minutes later suggesting there had been a man had been shot and the shooter was in the woods. RCMP and Paramedics responded to a cabin in the Riversdale area where they found a 51-year old man with head injuries. He was taken to hospital in Bridgewater claiming he was shot at while riding his all terrain vehicle. In the meantime, a perimeter was set up in the area by Natural Resources and RCMP. It was not long after the doctor called police the man had NOT been shot. S/Sgt Deveau says it appears the man drove over an object that came up and hit the man in the back of the head. The Charleston man has since been treated and released from hospital.

Sudden Death

RCMP in Lunenburg county are calling it a sudden death but say no foul play is suspected. Staff Sergeant Mark Furey says their members were called to a home in Barrs Corner just after midnight Saturday. Paramedics were already on scene when officers arrived. The crews had already started working on the 48 year old woman but she was pronounced deceased about 15 minutes later. An autopsy is being conducted today. Again, police do not suspect foul play.

Vandals and Thieves

A number of mailboxes were vandalized in Oakhill sometime over the weekend. The mailboxes were damaged between the 400 and 500 block on the Oakhill Road between Sunday September 20th and the early morning hours of Monday, September 21st. RCMP are asking the public for assistance in solving the incident.. Meantime Liverpool RCMP are asking the public to come forward with information regarding two children's bicycles. The bikes were reported stolen from Liverpool on Sunday morning, September 20th One of the bikes belongs to a seven year old and is a red and black mountain bike. The other which belongs to an eleven year old is a silver mountain bike with some yellow and black stickers.

Old Town Accident

Lunenburg RCMP are investigating a hit and run accident that took place in the town over the weekend. The Mounties are requesting the public's help in identifying a vehicle involved in the hit and run which happened Saturday September 12th around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Falkland Street and Victoria Road. A male driving a Green Ford Ranger pickup was seen fleeing the scene. Anyone who can identify the driver of the vehicle is asked to contact the Lunenburg RCMP at 634-8674.

Missing Kids Return

All four kids are now back at the Dayspring Adolescent Treatment Centre after staying out all night. The two boys - 12 and 9, and two girls - 12 and 11, were last seen between 8:30 and 9 last night. RCMP were called and the search started for the kids. They were all wearing pajamas and weren't really dressed to be outside all night. A police dog along with members of the Lunenburg County Ground Search and Rescue team were called in to help look for them. The call came in just before 6:30 this morning that the four kids had returned. RCMP Corporal Jamie Vacon is still speaking with them. Few other details are known right now. The facility is run by Family and Children's Services of Lunenburg County.

Accident Update

RCMP are trying to locate a woman accused of leaving the scene of an accident on Highway 103 in Hebb's Cross. Police say she was driving a four door silver or grey Honda - that witnesses describe as being either a Civic or and Accord. The woman is thought to be between sixty and seventy-five years old. Around 12:30 Sunday afternoon, an SUV had swerved to avoid a car pulling out of the Bob and the Boys parking lot onto Highway 103. The SUV ended up in the ditch, after rolling several times. Both the driver and passenger were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. RCMP are asking for help in identifying either the driver or the vehicle involved.

Furey Returns

His journey from top cop to politician and back again is completed. RCMP Senior Management have officially returned Mark Furey to the job of District Commander for the Lunenburg County RCMP. He officially started his duties as Staff Sergeant on Monday. Furey left his job on April 15th on unpaid leave to run as the Liberal candidate in Lunenburg West. He finished third with 25 percent of the popular vote in the June election where Gary Ramey was elected MLA. Two-term MLA Carolyn Bolivar Getson finished second. Furey is a 29-year veteran of the RCMP and is back in the saddle again.

Missing Woman Found

(UPDATE) A Queens county woman who RCMP had asked for help in locating has been found.  Corporal Grant Webber says she was found in Sobeys in Liverpool after making a phone call to her home.  He adds she wasn't lost. Her family was concerned about her well-being when they notified police yesterday afternoon.  Police are thanking everyone for their help on this file.

Queens RCMP asking for public assistance in locating 53 year old Wilma Karen Labrador of Liverpool. Labrador is about 5 feet, 2 inches, 170 to 180 pounds and has chin length dark hair with gold highlights.  She was wearing a beige T-shirt and black pants.  A police dog and helicopter are being used in the search for Labrador who has been missing since around 1:15 Thursday afternoon.  Anyone having seen her or knows of her whereabouts is asked to contact the Queens RCMP.

Queens RCMP Corporal Grant Webber one of a number of Nova Scotians recognized for their efforts to prevent crime and make communities safer.  The inaugural awards were handed out yesterday at a crime symposium in Halifax. Awards were presented in six categories including individual, youth, community group or organization, community policing, media and business community. Forty-three nominations were received. Corporal Grant Webber  was honoured for his Cops for Kids program and help with Citizens on Patrol. He tied in the Police Category with Const. Randy Wood of the Halifax Regional Police  who was recognized for his leadership in organizing block parties and bringing residents and landlords together.
