Gearing Up

It's the first forcast snowfall of the season. And crews with the Department of Transportation are gearing up for whatever comes down tomorrow. Snowfall of between 2 and 10 centimeters could be hitting inland areas through tonight and tomorrow. It's expected to be rain along the coastal areas of the south shore. There's a good supply of salt on hand and the mechanics are getting the ploughs ready for the snow tomorrow. But the biggest factor will be how drivers deal with the first snowfall. And D-O-T crews are hoping people will use care and caution as they head out on potentially slippery roads.

Trailers Burned

Two 30-foot construction trailers were destroyed by fire at the Department of Transportation depot on Highway Three in Hebbville. And RCMP are trying to locate two teenagers who were seen leaving the area around ten after two yesterday afternoon. Sergeant Dean Warr says they believe the fires were deliberately set. Two youth on bicycles were seen leaving through the woods exiting onto the William Hebb Road. RCMP are hoping someone comes forward who either saw the pair or who may know something about the incident. Members of the Hebbville Fire Department were called in to put out the fires yesterday afternoon. No one was hurt.

Parking lot lights

11:38 2009-03-31

Bright lights and a big glare from a business just off Highway 103 at Exit 12 are catching driver's eyes. And they've also caught the attention of the D-O-T's District Traffic Supervisor after people started complaining about them. Joe Crowell says under the Motor Vehicle Act you're not allowed to put up a light that creates a glare on the highway. The area manager is asking the owner of Bluenose RV to have the lights in their lot adjusted to change that. Joe Crowell says this type of issue doesn't come up often, but he says the business happens to sit at the top of the hill. He adds they are at a perfect level to mimic a vehicle coming at you down the highway but slightly offset.Crowell says they don't want people thinking the 103 was in a different locations. And with a less than perfect night, he says it does create quite a bit of glare. The area manager is sending a letter to the owners of Bluenose RV asking them to adjust the lights away from the highway.
