Board Holds Second Candidate Information Session

The local school board is offering potential candidates for this fall's election another chance to learn about being a member. Judith Sullivan-Corney is expected to talk about the board's role, remuneration and time commitment. There will then be a chance for potential candidates to ask questions. Roughly 50 people turned out for the first meeting in late May. Tonight's meeting gets underway at 6pm at the board office in Bridgewater. People interested in running for School Board elections must file their candidate papers by September 11.

Western Hurricanes Announce 2012-13 Roster

The BMO Western Hurricanes have finalized their roster for the upcoming season. Six players from Bridgewater, five from Yarmouth, two from Chester, and one from Lunenburg are among this year's squad. The Hurricanes have enjoyed a successful exhibition schedule so far, racking up four straight wins including an 8-1 Tuesday night against Halifax at Queens Place in Liverpool. The team will travel to Halifax Thursday night for another exhibition game. The regular season starts in September. NSP Paints Electric Co-op Into $30 Million Corner

Members of the municipal electric co-op were caught off guard by a move from Nova Scotia Power aimed at keeping them locked into the company's power grid. NSP is looking for roughly $30 million in total from the five members of the co-op should the independent utilities decide to purchase power from another supplier. Lunenburg mayor Laurence Mawhinney says it's hard to swallow because the co-op has been working hard to find cheaper power for its customers for the past seven years.



Mawhinney says it's frustrating given the province agreed to open the wholesale power market in 2005 so the utilities could explore buying power from other suppliers. Members of the co-op appeared before the utility and review board earlier this month during a hearing attached to NSP's new rate application. The co-op is made up five independent utilities in the province which include the town's of Lunenburg, Riverport, Mahone Bay, Berwick and Antigonish. No word on when a decision is expected from the URB.

UPDATED: Assault Case Put Over Until September

The court case involving a member of the Bridgewater Police Service has been put over until next month. Forty-six year old Christine Bonnell is facing two counts of assault connected to an alleged incident in July.
She was charged last month following an investigation by the province's Serious Incident Response Team. Bonnell is expected to enter a plea during her next court appearance on September 26th.

Penny Drive For Shelburne County Lighthouse

The lowest member of the Canadian coinage system is certainly attracting a lot of attention these days. Numerous community groups are keen on organizing penny drives as a way to raise money before the coin is removed from circulation later in the fall. The latest fundraising campaign is for the Sandy Point Lighthouse Group in Shelburne County. Spokesperson Jerry Fraser says the lighthouse is operated by the community and fundraising is a key part of it's regular upkeep. Fraser is hoping resident's will donate their old pennies to help preserve the iconic lighthouse. Penny drop boxes can be found at Lawton's, Goulden's Shell and at many other stores around Shelburne

Dr. Martha Jodrey Receives Humanitarian Award

A woman who spends her summer's in Chester is being recognized by the Canadian Red Cross. Dr. Martha Jodrey has been named the organization's humanitarian of the year for her work with people facing learning disabilities. She has spent the last three decades helping to create academic support programs at schools in Halifax and Windsor. Jodrey says she always wanted to help, not receive awards.



Jodrey has received a number of accolades for her long-standing work including the Order of Canada in 2009. She will receive the humanitarian award during a dinner in Halifax on October 24.

Workers At White Point Prepare To Move Indoors

Construction at White Point is preparing to shift indoors. Work on the roof finished Sunday and now the focus turns to installing the remaining windows before moving to the interior. General Manager Danny Morton says it will be a busy week indoors.



Work on the main lodge has been ongoing for the last five months after fire destroyed the previous building last November. Officials anticipate opening the lodge to the public November 8.

Bridgewater Man Charged With Trafficking Prescription Meds

Bridgewater police have charged a local man for trafficking prescription medication. Forty-seven-year-old Kevin Leroy Wheaton of Bridgewater faces charges after an incident last year. In October 2011, Bridgewater Police were called to a home regarding the sudden death of a 22-year-old Lunenburg County man. The body of Joshua Ballard was found in the accused's residence. Charges were laid after a ten month investigation with assistance from the Medical Examiner's office. The man will appear in court November 7th for plea.

Liberal "Power" Meeting Tonight On South Shore

More choice, more competition and more protection from the power monopoly. Thats how the province's Liberal leader Stephen McNeil sums-up the feedback he's been getting from Nova Scotians on his "Power Tour" across the province. The latest installment comes to the South Shore this evening. McNeil will hold a town hall-style meeting to discuss high power rates and his plan for eliminating NS Power's monopoly and those rate hikes which he says are jeopardizing the financial well-being of ratepayers.



Tonight's public meeting will be held at the Oak Hill Fire Hall starting at 7 o'clock. McNeil says similar sessions are planned, even after the utility and review board hearing on September 13th into Nova Scotia Power's application for power rate hikes in 2013 and 14.

Growing Green Festival Enjoys Successful Weekend

A weekend festival has enjoyed one of its most successful years to date. Organizers with the Growing Green Festival say this year's event had one of its best turnouts in its four year history. The free concerts, street fest and local food dinner at Wiles Lake Farm Market were among the crowd-pleasers. Festival Chair Patrick Hirtle says the event went off without a hitch.



Hirtle says the Festival is open to new ideas for next year. The committee has targeted the August 17 weekend in 2013 as next year's date.

Queens Health Project Nears Fundraising Goal

Members of the fundraising committee behind the Queens General Health expansion project can see the finish line. The community campaign to raise $1.5 million began last November and the latest figures indicate the group is only $30,000 shy of its overall goal. Campaign chair Christopher Clarke says residents have supported the fundraising efforts from the very beginning.





The Queens Foundation will contribute $11 million towards the expansion with additional support from the Region of Queens, and the Nova Scotia Government. The $16 million dollars project includes a new collaborative health care clinic in Liverpool and extensive upgrades at the hospital's existing 22 bed medical unit.

Chester: Veteran Councillor Set To Re-Offer

A veteran councillor is Chester has announced her intentions to re-offer in municipal elections this fall. Sharon Church-Cornelius was first elected in 1999 and is seeking a fourth term in District 7. As a long time resident of the Windsor Road, she believes the Kaizer Meadow wind project is just one example of the good work being carried out by council.



If re-elected, Church-Cornelius says she will continue to ensure residents tax dollars are spent appropriately and that the municipality remain fiscally responsible. She says her time on council has been rewarding and believes her experience will be an asset when a new council is elected.

Dexter: NDP Vows To Create Jobs on South Shore

Premier Darrell Dexter says the province will speed-up already planned projects to create jobs along the South Shore. The provincial NDP government announced $15 million for road improvements in Lunenburg, Shelburne and Queens Counties late last week. The bulk of the money is spread over three projects with $2.9 million in new paving in East River, $2.7 million on route 203 in Shelburne and $1.8 million for Highway 103 between Exit's 17 and 18. Dexter says the investments will help stimulate the economy in light of some recent setbacks in the region.



The province also plans to upgrade Rissers Beach along with improvements to the T.H. Raddal Provincial Park in Queens and The Island Provincial Park in Shelburne County. Dexter says tenders will go out soon and work will be carried out over the next year.

Baillie Calls For Bowater Land Protection

A public campaign is heating up to persuade the provincial government to buy back thousands of hectares of land to prevent it from falling into the hands of a foreign forestry company. The land includes three plots that comprise 220-thousand hectares in Annapolis, Halifax, Hants, Lunenburg, Queens and Shelburne counties. The land once belonged to the Bowater Mersey paper mill, which shut down in June. The province's PC leader, Jamie Baillie, is calling upon the Dexter government to work toward protecting the lands.



The province already bought 10-thousand hectares for 24 million dollars as part of the deal to keep Bowater up and running. However, the mill closed anyway within a few months.

Wildwood Cafe Closing September 30

The Wildwood Cafe in Bridgewater is closing its doors. Owners Aaron Brown and Mary Gallardo have decided to shut down the popular eatery September 30. Brown says its time for something new.



The King Street cafe employs up to four people. The restaurant won numerous awards since it opened in February 2009 including Progress Magazine's Best Lunch Spot in the Maritimes in 2010. Brown says people in Bridgewater were very welcoming and they've enjoyed their time on the South Shore.

Peewee 'AAA' Bulldogs Win Provincial Baseball Crown

The Bridgewater Bulldogs peewee 'AAA' baseball team will get a chance to defend their Eastern Canadian Championship crown. The Bulldogs won the provincials over the weekend, defeating the Tri-County Rangers 10-6 in the final. Coach Dennis Woodworth says back-to-back provincial titles at a "AAA" level has never been accomplished in Bridgewater.




Bulldogs player Zack Zinck was named tournament MVP. The local club will head to the Eastern Canadian Championships from September 6-9 in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Back To School Do's & Dont's

Its back to school in just over a week for South Shore students. In the lead up, parents are busy outfitting their kids with new clothes and school supplies. Whether your child is headed to high school or university, the Better Business Bureau serving the Atlantic Provinces has some Back-to-School basics. Jill Atkinson of the Bureau says a new school year can be exciting, but it is important to have a plan in place. She says don't go overboard, plan ahead and stick to a budget.




When shopping for anything from new attire to electronic items, the BBB has these tips to help you be a savvy back-to-school shopper:
1). Set a budget. Decide how much you are willing to spend per child, and know what your child’s school allows. Schools will often provide parents with a list of required items for the school year, which can help determine what you need to purchase. After taking inventory, create a shopping list and stick to it. This will help you avoid costly impulse purchases and ensure nothing is forgotten.
2). Ask about returns and refunds. Shopping for new clothes, accessories and gadgets is one of the highlights of going back to school. When buying new gear, always take the time to ask the store about their refund, return and exchange policy and always keep the receipts.
3). Don’t be fooled by misleading bargains. Back-to-school sales may not be the bargains they appear to be. Read ads and coupons; conditions, timeframes and restrictions must be listed. If an offer is misrepresented, see the store manager.
4). Expensive items: Ask about the warranty. How long is it in effect and what does it cover? Weigh the pros and cons of an extended warranty plan.

ER Closure: Fishermen's Memorial in Lunenburg

The emergency department at Fishermen's Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg will be closed for a period of time over the weekend. Officials at the hospital say the closure will take place on Sunday evening beginning at 5 o'clock until Monday morning at 7:30AM. The closure is due to the unavailability of staff. All those requiring emergency care are being directed to the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater.

Queens Residents Receive Diamond Jubilee Medal

Four Queens County residents have been honoured by the premier. Darrell Dexter recognized Liverpool natives Jamie Belong, Beverley Crouse and posthumously to Robert "Scottie" Rodger with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Milton's Alexandra Stephenson also received the medal. The medals were awarded to the four people for their contributions to the province. Today's recipients were nominated personally by the premier. They were presented the medals during a ceremony in Liverpool. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal commemorates the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the Throne, and honours her service and dedication to Canada.

Sod Turning For Queens General Health Project

Hundreds of residents gathered in Liverpool today to celebrate the ground breaking ceremony for the Queens General Health project. The sod was turned on the $16 million dollar project which will see a new collaborative health care clinic constructed directly behind the existing hospital and the redevelopment of 22 inpatient units. Dr. Gary Ernest has practiced in Queens for the past 30 years. He says the project will benefit both staff and patients.



The QGH project should be complete by the end of 2013.

South Shore Hospitals Still Facing Bed Crunch

The CEO of South Shore Health is asking residents to be patient while staff work through a bed shortage in Bridgewater and Lunenburg. The health authority indicates bed space remains extremely limited at both hospitals in Lunenburg County. Dr. Peter Vaughan says staff are working diligently to meet the needs of those requiring medical attention at both emergency departments.



Vaughan says the situation has improved dramatically at Queens General Hospital in Liverpool over the past few weeks. South Shore Health is encouraging those requiring non-emergency care to use the 8-1-1 phone service or visit their nearest walk-in clinic.

Bridgewater Police Officer Facing Assault Charges

A member of the Bridgewater Police Service has been charged by the province's Serious Incident Response Team. Forty-six year-old Christine Bonnell of Bridgewater faces two charges of assaulting a man. The charges are related to a domestic violence complaint received by Bridgewater Police on August 1. The charges are for alleged incidents in July. Bonnell was not on active duty when the alleged incidents occurred. She is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court August 29.

Mustangs Open Up Training Camp

The dog days of summer are upon us and with it comes the start of hockey season. The South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs open up training camp this evening. The Mustangs are coming off one of their best regular seasons in team history, but a disappointing first round playoff exit. Camp opens up tonight from 6:30-8pm at the Bridgewater Arena.

Lohnes Holds Fundraiser In Lunenburg

Bridgewater's Whitney Lohnes is looking for your support to help her get to tournaments and training camp. The local judoka will be at the Lunenburg Subway Saturday from 10:30-1:30pm. She is selling tickets on a summer-themed gift basket and is also holding a 50/50 draw. Money raised is expected to go towards a tournament in Samoa, a camp in Japan and the University Games in Russia. Lohnes is trying to make it to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Growing Green Festival Opens In Bridgewater

A unique festival dedicated to sustainability opens up tonight in Bridgewater. The Growing Green Festival kicks off its two-day event this evening with a number of events including free concerts at King Street Court. The festival comes into full effect Saturday with exhibitors and activities along King Street and throughout Lunenburg County. Festival chair Patrick Hirtle says the event challenges people to think about more they could be doing.



Hirtle expects roughly 2,000 people to take-in the two day event. This is the festival's fourth year. A reminder for residents that King Street between Empire and Dominion will be closed Saturday to traffic from 7am until 2pm for the festival. Diesel Fuel Users Hit By Price Increase

No change this morning on the South Shore in the price of one type of gasoline. However, there's a surprise increase in the price of another. Regular self serve is unchanged in price at $1.34.7 per litre. Diesel is up though, by more than two cents. Its selling at $1.37.1 per litre.

Is Wayward Peacock On South Shore Mayor's Campaign Team?

Its election campaign time these days for many South Shore municipal politicians. Among them is the mayor of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg. However, Don Downe is hoping a wayward peacock that's turned up in his backyard is not applying to be his campaign manager.



Mayor Downe says he's done everything to shuffle the bird off to someone else but the peacock just will not budge. Downe is hoping someone will claim the bird and take it off his hands. So, if your peacock is missing, it might be over at Don Downe's house. You can call the mayor's office to claim it.

Bluenose II Re-Launch Expected In Mid-September

The government's project manager for the Bluenose II is projecting a mid-September re-launch date. Bill Greenlaw says there is still plenty of work to be done on the vessel including installing the rudder before it can be put into the water. He's commending workers in Lunenburg for their efforts in transferring the schooner from its renovation area to the marine slipway.



The side transfer was completed Thursday in a matter of hours. The schooner has undergone an extensive $16-million rebuild along the Lunenburg Waterfront.

Baillie Wants Details On Failed Michelin Expansion

Nova Scotia's PC leader is calling on Premier Darrell Dexter to reveal why a proposed expansion at Michelin's tire plant in Waterville was nixed. The tire manufacturer scheduled a press conference last month at its plant in the Annapolis Valley but the company cancelled at the last minute. Jamie Baillie believes Michelin's decision to cancel their expansion plans is due to the first contract labour bill.



Michelin employs 3,500 people across Nova Scotia including 1,300 in Waterville and just over 1,000 in Bridgewater.

VIDEO: Olympian Visits Kippers Gymnastics Club

A 16-year-old Olympian says she's impressed with what she sees at Kippers Gymnastics Club in Bridgewater. Ellie Black stopped by the club today to meet with young gymnasts and helped answer questions on certain techniques. Black also posed for pictures and signed autographs for roughly 30 people who gathered to see her. She says the Olympic dream is reachable if kids practice hard and believe.



One of Black's training partners, 11-year-old Vincent d'Entremont, says it's great to train alongside an Olympian.



Black helped the Canadian gymnastics team finish fifth in London. The Halifax native says she's unsure if she will try to qualify for the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro.

Workers along the Lunenburg Waterfront start the process of moving the Bluenose II into its position for re-launch. The work was being done this morning. The vessel is expected to be placed into its cradle. It's another step in the process before the vessel returns to the water. The province has yet to release a re-launch date for the schooner.

Minor Injuries In Queens County Truck Crash

The driver of a 10 wheel truck received minor injuries earlier this morning when his vehicle left Highway 103 near East Port L'Hebert and ploughed into the ditch. The truck landed on its side. Queens RCMP Constable Rick Ellens says they closed the highway for about an hour while the truck was righted and moved away.



The driver of the truck received only a few bumps and bruises. He's OK. Its not known yet what caused the accident. Investigators say the weather was clear and driving conditions good at the time.

Brown Ready For Next Shot At Bridgewater Council

A former town councillor in Bridgewater is vying for a seat in this fall's municipal elections after a four-year absence. Sixty-nine-year-old Beverlee Brown says she has renewed energy and wants to get back on council to help make decisions on environmental and developmental changes. Brown spent 11 years on council from 1997 until 2008 when she was defeated. She says the last four years has been eye-opening.


Brown looks to shared services with other municipalities as a future direction for council. Councillors Patrick Hirtle, Jim Bell, Bill McInnis and Greg Ritcey are all seeking re-election. Deputy Mayor David Walker is going after the mayor's position while current mayor Carroll Publicover is not re-offering. Meanwhile, Councillor David Mitchell plans on running in the next provincial election and isn’t running for town council. Jennifer MacDonald is the only other resident to confirm with CKBW/HANK-FM News that she is running. Elections will be held October 20.

Bluenose II Shifting To Position For Re-Launch

Nova Scotia's sailing ambassador is about to be moved for the first time since its rebuild began two years ago in Lunenburg. According to the Bluenose II official website, workers are preparing to shift the vessel into a position for re-launch. The vessel is expected to be placed into its cradle beginning Thursday morning. It's another final step in the process before the vessel returns to the water. The schooner has undergone an extensive $16-million rebuild along the Lunenburg Waterfront. The province is expected to announce a re-launch date in the near future.

Sod Turning for Queens General Health Project

It's a celebration to kick off a long awaited project designed to improve health services along the South Shore. A sod turning ceremony for the $16 million dollars Queens General Health project will take place on Friday. Local dignitaries and members of South Shore Health will join Premier Darrell Dexter for the event in Liverpool. The project will see the construction of a new primary care clinic and redevelopment of the 22-bed in-patient unit at the hospital in Liverpool. Avondale construction has been awarded the work tender for the project. The sod turning ceremony will take place at 11 o'clock.

Meet And Greet: Jenna Martin In Westfield

South Shore residents are getting another chance to meet their local Olympian. Organizers have set up a meet and greet event with Jenna Martin at the Westfield Community Centre Thursday night. One of the organizers, Linda Frail, says its a chance for people to show their support.



There will be chance to get pictures taken with Jenna, as well as autographs. The event will be held Thursday night from 7-9pm.

Martin Meets Supporters At Bridgewater Superstore

The South Shore's lone Olympian exchanged hugs, smiled for pictures and signed autographs for people who took time to see her during a meet and greet Wednesday afternoon at Bridgewater Superstore. Jenna Martin spent two hours meeting residents and listened to their conversations about how proud they are of her accomplishments. Over 30 people stopped by to meet the local athlete. The 24-year-old made it to the semis of the women's 400 metre event at the London Games.

Update: Bed Shortage Situation Improving

The critical bed shortage at South Shore Health's three hospitals is easing. The situation has been aided by less visits to the emergency department at hospital in Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Liverpool over the past few days. Vice President of Health Services Janet Simm says fewer people arriving for non-emergency care has helped ease pressure on hospital staff and wait times for patients. South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater and Fishermen's Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg are both still over capacity. Queens General Hospital in Liverpool is near capacity with admitted patients. However, Simm says all three sites are able to manage the patient flow.

Yarmouth Intl. Airport At 75: More Important Than Ever!

There's a celebration planned today at the Yarmouth International Airport. The facility is marking its 75th anniversary with a variety of aeronautical museum displays and aircraft. The public is invited to head to the airport between 10 this morning and 4pm to take it all in. Yarmouth Mayor Phil Mooney says the airport, after 75 years, is more important than ever to the area.



One of the key attractions today will be the Snowbirds and a display at 4:30pm over Yarmouth harbour. Its the only performance this year in the province by the famous Canadian aero-fleet

Local Legions Receive Provincial Funding

A pair of South Shore legions have received funding from the provincial government. The NDP has granted $1,294 to the New Germany branch for roof repair. It is also providing almost $2,875 for insulation work at the A.L. Patterson legion in Caledonia. Eight other legion buildings across the province are also getting money for various projects. The money is provided through the Legion Capital Assistance Program.

MODL: Boat Speed A Concern Near Gifford Island

The Municipality of Lunenburg is taking steps to reduce boat speeds between Indian Point Road and Gifford Island near Mahone Bay. Council decided to bring the issue to their police advisory board and also post signs on government wharfs and boat launches in the area. The problem became apparent after a nearby resident brought it to the municipality's attention. Mayor Don Downe says there are two issues to consider.



Downe is optimistic posting signs will remind boaters to keep their speed at a minimum when they enter the narrow channel. If convicted, boaters can face fines up to $350.

Kippers Gymnastic's School Hosts Olympian

 

A 16 year-old gymnast fresh off a solid performance at the Summer Olympic's will make a stop in Bridgewater later this week. Ellie Black of Halifax helped lead the Canadian team to a fifth place finish on the balance beam, vault, floor and uneven bars in London. Black and her coach David Kikuchi will take part in a meet and greet on Thursday at Kippers School of Gymnastics in the Gateway Plaza. Instructor Nena Erickson says local athlete's are excited about the opportunity to meet the young Olympian.




Nearly 300 athletes from Chester to Yarmouth are currently training in a variety of sports at Kippers. The event will be held at the gymnastics club beginning at 10 o'clock.

Food Bank Bikers Begin South Shore Leg Of Trip

A community barbeque is planned early this afternoon in Bridgewater. Its to welcome Cyclist Roger Boutlier and the rest of his crew from the provincial realtor's association. Its the end of another leg of their ride from Sydney to Yarmouth to help food banks across the province.



Today's event goes over the noon hour at Shipyard's Landing. The public is invited to attend and bring along a cash donation or a non-perishable food donation. The realtors' trip began a week ago in Sydney. It wraps up in Yarmouth on Saturday after travelling to Liverpool, cross-country to the Valley and to Digby. The campaign is to help restock Feed Nova Scotia's food banks. The campaign goal is to raise 25-thousand dollars.

Walker Elected To National Police Board

Bridgewater's deputy mayor has accepted a role as an executive member on the Canadian Association of Police Boards. David Walker is now the secretary and treasurer of the national board after he was elected during a conference in Victoria, B.C. last week. His responsibilities include overseeing finances and disbursing funds to members. Walker says he wanted to be a part of the board's transition.


Walker says he will hold the position for one year. He is also a member of the local police commission and president of the Nova Scotia Association of Police Boards.

Chester: Open House On Wind-Energy Project

Residents of Chester will have an opportunity to learn more about the municipality's new wind-energy project. Members of council will host an open house this afternoon to explain how the project will proceed. The $5 million dollar project will be fully owned by the municipality and feature a large 2.3 megawatt turbine. The turbine will be constructed at the Kaizer Meadow Management Centre and is expected to begin generating power in 2013. Minas Basin Pulp and Power is developing the project and tasked with selecting the turbine and permitting work. The open house will provide residents with an opportunity to ask questions and talk about the project one-on-one. The event will held at Kaizer Meadow and begins at 1 o'clock.

BREAKING: Police Recover Body From LaHave River

Bridgewater Police and members of the local fire department have recovered a body from the east side of the LaHave River. In a release, police say the victim is an adult male and the death is not considered suspicious. Constable Will Creamer says the body was found near the Bridgewater Marina around 4 o'clock Monday afternoon. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time as police officers are notifying the family.

Fire Protection By-Law Passes First Reading

An important piece of information has been given a preliminary thumbs up by Bridgewater council. The town approved first reading of a Fire Protection bylaw. The bylaw explains construction requirements, rules around outdoor fires and types of enforcement. Mayor Carroll Publicover says credit should be given to the town's fire inspector.



The bylaw is expected back in front of council September 10.

Lunenburg: Bluenose II Nearing Re-Launch

 

The massive dome covering Bluenose II during it's rebuild has been completely dismantled. The temporary shelter has covered the schooner for the past two years during its restoration on the Lunenburg waterfront. Its tear down, signals a major step in the process towards re-launching the vessel. After the dome is removed, Bluenose II needs to be repositioned onto the slipway in preparation for relaunch. Further prep work and tide conditions will then play a large factor in determining when the vessel returns to the water. The schooner is expected to be completely rigged in the fall and ready for public sailing next summer. The province has yet to officially announce a launch date for Bluenose II.
