FibreOp Coming To Lunenburg

A new and improved Internet and TV service is coming to Lunenburg. Bell Aliant is bringing its FibreOp network to the town. The company is investing $750,000 to bring the service to about 1,500 homes and businesses. Bell first announced the FibreOp expansion in Nova Scotia in May 2010. VP for Residential Markets, Andre LeBlanc, says two years later, they've made it to Lunenburg.



LeBlanc expects to have the service ready for residents and businesses this winter. Lunenburgers can pre-register on October 19 for FibreOP service at http://www.bellaliant.net/fibreop/ .

Violent Robbery Near Bridgewater Mall

Police are looking for two men after an aggressive robbery near the Bridgewater Mall earlier today. The alleged incident occurred behind Zellers on LaHave Street when two men approached another man who was walking in the area. Police say the male victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment and later released. The two men wanted in connection with the robbery are described as white and in their early 20's.

South Shore Health Cuts Acupuncture Services

South Shore Health will no longer provide acupuncture services beginning in November. The move will affect approximately 50 clients across Lunenburg and Queens. The treatment was offered through a program under Addiction and Mental Health Services. In a news release, South Shore Health says research does not support acupuncture's effectiveness for treating addiction and mental health. The health authority believes the change will free up staff and put more focus on improving access and reducing wait times. The acupuncture services through South Shore Health will cease on November 2nd.

South Shore: E-Voting Numbers Remain Strong

The latest stats continue to show residents of Chester and Bridgewater have taken a liking to e-voting. In Chester, 1,452 residents have already cast their votes either online or over the phone in advance of this Saturday's municipal and school board election. In total, 987 votes were cast through web voting while 465 were sent in over the phone.  In Bridgewater, 1,248 residents have cast their ballot through e-voting. The number show 1,066 voted online and 182 over the phone. E-voting wraps up in Chester today while residents in Bridgewater can e-vote right up until the time polls close on Saturday at 7 o'clock.

Local School Board Getting Additional Teachers

The South Shore Regional School Board is getting some added help from the province. The board is receiving an additional two-and-a-half teachers to meet the need of oversized classrooms in some of their schools. The help is being provided as part of the government's move to reduce class sizes in primary to grade three. Superintendent Nancy Pynch-Worthylake says they have 15 classrooms with more than 25 students between those grades. She says at least two schools will benefit from the extra help.



Pynch-Worthylake says it hasn't been determined where the remaining position will be filled. She says the additional help will be in the schools as soon as possible.

Queens Mayor Reflects On His Long Career

He was elected to the Nova Scotia legislature six consecutive times (1978 to 1999 as a PC) and he was a cabinet minister and deputy speaker and more recently, the Mayor of the District of Queens. Now though, in these final days of John Leefe's 12 years in the mayor's office, he's reflecting on his long career. In an interview, Leefe tells us what's led to his success over all those years has been the loyalty of the residents of Queens County and beyond.



And that job as mayor has included leading the way in infrastructure improvements in sewer and water and tourism promotion. Leefe says another highlight has been the development of Queens Place-Emera Centre. After retirement later this month, Leefe will continue as honorary colonel of the West Nova Scotia reserve regiment.



He may also write another book and he and wife Nancy will likely be travelling quite a bit too.

Gas Prices Here May Drop Tonight!

South Shore gasoline prices may take another drop overnight tonight! In New Brunswick this morning, the price of gas has taken a dip for the second week in a row. Regular self-serve in New Brunswick is down just over two cents, selling for about a-dollar-32-cents a litre. Gas has fallen more than seven cents a litre since October 4th. However, diesel is up this week in New Brunswick by just over two cents, the third consecutive increase. Here on the South Shore, regular self serve gasoline is selling today at $1.37.3 a litre. Diesel is $1.38 a litre.

Bluenose II Masts Returning!

Over the next day or two, the giant masts that are a major feature of Bluenose II will be raised into place. To kick off the event, there's a ceremony this morning on the Lunenburg waterfront. MLA Pam Birdsall, on behalf of Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Leonard Preyra, will be joining Bluenose II Captain Phil Watson. Known as stepping the masts, the process begins with the placement of two coins under the base of both masts. After the placement of the coins, the masts will be raised into place by a crane, a process that will take as long as two days to complete. Bluenose II is nearing the end of a major rebuild costing about 16-million dollars.

Mustangs Lose Heartbreaker To Cole Harbour

The South Shore Mustangs put together 58 minutes of hockey Wednesday night, it was the last two that hurt the most. The Mustangs led 6-4 before the Cole Harbour Wolfpack scored twice in the final minute and 36 seconds of play and eventually beat the local club 7-6 in overtime. The loss is the club's sixth in a row. Alex Nauss had two goals while Christian Tufts, Jordan Messenger, Jamie Arsenault and MacKenzie Woodman also tallied. Cole Skinner allowed seven goals on 25 shots. The Mustangs will try and break their losing streak when they head to Pictou County this weekend for a pair of games against the Weeks Major Midgets.

Lone School Board Member Wraps Up Term

The lone member of the South Shore Regional School Board has wrapped up her term after 10 months on the job. Judith Sullivan-Corney attended her final meeting Wednesday night before a newly elected board takes her place after this Saturday's election. She was brought in by the Education Minister after the previous school board was fired following a scathing report by Deloitte Inc. Sullivan-Corney says all the recommendations put forward by the report last November have been implemented.



Sullivan-Corney says she enjoyed her time working with staff and the community. She hopes to become a consultant, now that her role with the board is finished.

Mustangs Look To Break Losing Skid In Cole Harbour

The South Shore Mustangs look to break a five-game winless skid when they travel to Cole Harbour tonight to play the Wolfpack. Cole Harbour skated away to a 4-0 win over the Mustangs when the two teams met last weekend in Bridgewater. Tonight's game gets going at 7:30.

RCMP Arrest Man For 2010 Fire At Yarmouth Golf Club

RCMP in Yarmouth have finally got the man they believe is responsible for a fire two years ago at the Pubnico Golf and Country Club. The incident occurred on August 5, 2010. Several golf carts were destroyed by fire causing over $140,000 in damages.  RCMP arrested a 33-year-old man from Shelburne County without incident after receiving new information. The man faces 14 counts of mischief over $5,000. He has been released on a promise to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court November 27th.

Shelburne: Awards Dinner Celebrates Local Business

Twelve businesses have been nominated for awards this year in Eastern Shelburne County. The 2012 Business Excellence Awards in Shelburne will be held on Thursday night at the Osprey Arts Centre. Five major awards will be handed out in various categories ranging from Export Achievement to Business of the Year. The evening's guest speaker will feature Deborah Hashey of Irving Shipbuilding. VIDEO: Sod Turned For New Middle School

The sod has officially been turned at the site of the new South Queens Middle School. Premier Darrell Dexter along with grade seven student Shanyn Whynot plunged their shovels into the ground, marking the start of the project. Dexter went to the current school as a high school student, along with other members of his family. He says it's a day of mixed emotions.



Dexter says the new school will be the first of its kind in the province designed to support project-based learning. MLA for Queens,Vicki Conrad, echoed the premier's thoughts, saying the new school will be a great benefit for the community.



She says the new school will encourage good learning opportunities and attract families to the area. The school will be home to students in grades 6 to 8, with grade 9 students moving to Liverpool Regional High School. The new middle school is scheduled to open in September 2013.

South Shore Health Offers Free Flu Shots

It's almost time to roll up your sleeve and get a flu shot. South Shore Health is offering free vaccination clinics across the region beginning on October 23rd in New Germany and Caledonia. People at high risk of complications due to the flu are those 65 and older, young children, pregnant women and anyone with chronic medical conditions. The health authority is encouraging anyone who falls under those categories to get a flu shot and lower their risk.

Retiring Yarmouth Mayor Happy With Term In Office

He's been Mayor for only one term. However, Phil Mooney believes he's helped his town accomplish a lot.
The Yarmouth Mayor is not running again for the job. He says the highlight of his tenure was the provincial funding announcement recently to help in re-establishment of the ferry to Maine.



Mooney says troubles surrounding the SouthWest Development Authority and town finances were areas he and council worked their way through over the past 4 years. While he's retiring from the Mayor's chair, Mooney "is" running for a town council seat in Saturday's elections.



Mooney will leave office as Mayor at the end of the month.

School Board: District Four Candidates Forum

School review, future challenges and agreeing or disagreeing with the decision to fire the previous board were among the topics discussed during Tuesday night's candidates forum at Hebbville Academy. The four people running for school board in district four each voiced their opinions in front of about 50 people. Candidate Brian Eisener says there has to be change to make students more successful in learning.



Meanwhile, another candidate, Karen Reinhardt, says it all starts with the younger children.



On another issue, candidate Fred Daugherty says it was a good choice to reduce the amount of school board seats.



Another candidate, Jennifer Naugler, agrees.



School Board elections for district four will be held Saturday until 7pm.

Sod Turning For South Queens School In Liverpool

The sod will be turned for the new South Queens School project tomorrow in Liverpool. Premier Darrell Dexter will join MLA Vicki Conrad for the ground breaking ceremony. The province has committed $16 million dollars towards the project. The South Queens School will be home to grades 6 to 8, with grade 9 students moving to Liverpool Regional High School. It's expected to be ready for classes in September 2013. The ceremony begins at 11AM at the school construction site on Waterloo Street.

School Board Candidates Forum At Hebbville Academy

School Board candidates from district four will take part in a forum tonight at Hebbville Academy. The school advisory councils from Hebbville, Pentz, Petite and Newcombville are hosting the event. The candidates in that area include are Brian Eisener, Karen Reinhardt, Jennifer Naugler and Fred Daugherty. The forum gets underway at 7pm.

MODL Mothballs Riverport School

Steps are starting to be taken to demolish the former Riverport School. The Municipality of Lunenburg has decided to mothball the school and continue to lobby the province to take responsibility of the building. Councillor for the area, Don Zwicker, says it's time to cut their losses on the school. He says they have to do what's right for the municipality and the community.



Zwicker says the common theme with residents is to get rid of the building. A recent assessment revealed the municipality could spend roughly $300,000 to demolish the school.

Second Day Of Advance Polls Open

Today is the second and final day for advanced polling in several communities around the South Shore. Advance polls opened at noon for residents living within the Municipality of Lunenburg, Town of Lunenburg, Region of Queens, Mahone Bay, Town of Shelburne and Municipality of Shelburne. Residents will be able to vote via the paper ballot at their designated polling stations. Voting will take place until 8PM. E-voting continues in Bridgewater and Chester in advance of election day on Saturday. Election day is October 20th.

Jordan Bay Family Provides Boston Christmas Tree

A Shelburne County family has been selected to donate this year's Nova Scotia Christmas tree to Boston. The province chose Paul and Jan Hicks of Jordan Bay. This year's tree is about 70 years old and stands close to the road on the Hicks' front yard. Each year since 1971, the province has sent Boston a large Christmas tree for the help provided after the devastating Halifax Explosion of Dec. 6, 1917. Close to 2,000 people were killed and hundreds were left hurt and homeless. A crew from Natural Resources will cut the tree on the Hicks' property during a public ceremony November 13. The province will truck the 50 foot white spruce to Boston as part of the annual tradition. The tree lighting will take place on the Boston Common on November 29.

Lunenburg Mayoralty Candidate Seeks More Openess & Public Consultation

He wants to be mayor of the Town of Lunenburg and Ron Stockton believes he's got a good shot of winning in this Saturday's municipal election. The former labour lawyer says there are a lot of residents willing to help him move things forward while keeping the town's heritage intact. Stockton is promising openess of government and greater public consultation if elected. He says in this day and age, its a must that government is managed that way.



Stockton says he'd also like to have more co-operation with neighboring municipalities. He and former Lunenburg deputy mayor and councillor Rachel Bailey are seeking the mayor's office, being vacated by the retiring Laurence Mawhinney.

CTF Calls For Investigation Into Illegal Cigarette Sales

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says its almost criminal whats happening with tax-free cigarettes being provided by Ottawa to native reserves across this province. Last year, the CTF revealed millions of dollars were being lost in black market tobacco products. Now, spokesman Kevin Lacey tells the problem is even worse. He says according to numbers obtained by FOIPOP from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, over 137,000 cigarettes were sold tax-free for the personal use of Status Indians in 2011-12. There are only 14,989 status Indians in Nova Scotia, making up 1.5 per cent of the entire population. Yet, 13.3 per cent of all tobacco sold in the province was sold on reserve, officially for the personal use of Status Indians. He says tax-payers are on the losing end and tens of millions of dollars are involved.



Lacey says tobacco products are being sold off-reserve. The CTF is calling for an investigation.

Election Most Interesting One In Years: Political Scientist

For the first time in years, the municipal election on the South Shore has sparked considerable interest. Thats the conclusion of political scientist Agar Adamson of Wolfville. He tells us, with 3 mayors not re-offering after many years in office, the political landscape will change to some degree after October 20th. Thats particularly true with Lunenburg mayor Laurence Mawhinney and District of Queens mayor John Leefe leaving after a combined 45 years of service.



Mawhinney has been mayor of Lunenburg for 33 years and Leefe has been mayor of the District of Queens for 12 and an MLA and cabinet minister for years prior to that. Mayor Carol Publicover of Bridgewater is also leaving office after 8 years.

Eagleridge Estates Gets Green Light

The former Olde Town golf course is expected to be transformed in the next few years. Bridgewater council held a public hearing recently and heard no arguments against the housing project being proposed for the land. The project, led by Genivar Inc., will include 157 housing units including 128 in phase one. The plan for Eagleridge Estates includes town-houses, semi-attached dwellings and a pair of apartment buildings. Construction isn't expected to start until 2014-15. The public has two weeks to apply to the UARB to appeal the decision.

LaHave Manor Employees Unionize - Join CAW

Employees at LaHave Manor in Bridgewater have unionized, joining the Canadian Auto Workers Union. The CAW is one of Canada's largest labour unions with nearly 200,000 members. About 70 people work at LaHave Manor and will now be able to negotiate a collective agreement with their employer. The Adult Residential Centre is a long-standing fixture in the Bridgewater area and is owned by LaHave Manor Corporation. LaHave operates three other homes in Bridgewater, including Compassion House, Fernwood House and Pleasant Street Group Homes.

Yarmouth RCMP Target Distracted Drivers

RCMP in Yarmouth have handed out fines to 20 motorists nabbed for texting or making phone calls while driving. Police conducted a blitz along Starrs Road on Friday. They had a plain clothed officer report clear violations to other members who were parked nearby. The project allowed police to issue 23 tickets to motorists for not wearing seat belts. Similar initiatives to halt distracted driving are also planned in Digby and Shelburne Counties in the near future.

School Board Forum In Bridgewater/Chester

Local residents are getting a chance to meet their school board candidates in the town of Bridgewater.A candidates forum is being hosted by the Bridgewater Junior/Senior High school advisory council for Monday night for Cheryl Fougere and Jerome Tanner. The forum gets underway at the high school at 7pm. Forest Heights will also host a Chester candidates forum Monday night.

South Shore: More Advanced Polls Open

A few more South Shore residents will be able to cast their ballots in advanced polls for the municipal and school board election. Those living in the Municipality of Lunenburg and Town of Mahone Bay can vote today between 12PM and 8PM. E-voting is underway in the Town of Bridgewater and Municipal of Chester and will continue until October 20th and October 18th respectively. Polling day is October 20th.

Community Play Area Opening In Pine Grove

The first phase of the Pine Grove outdoor play area will open this weekend. A grand opening is planned for Saturday from 10am-2pm at 72 Charlie Lane. A rain date is planned for the same time on Sunday, should the weather not co-operate. Municipality of Lunenburg councillor Sandra Statton says it will fill a need in the community.




The outdoor play area will feature a ball hockey or ice hockey pad, depending on the season, basketball nets, a swing set and mountain bike hills. A ball hockey tournament will be held Saturday to mark the event, with an entry fee of $2. Statton says phase two is expected to begin next October.

E-Votes Pouring In Around South Shore

It appears residents of Bridgewater and Chester are liking the option of casting their ballots either by phone or online. Chester has recorded 543 total votes through evoting since the polls opened on Thursday. The break down has 173 votes via TelVote and 370 votes via WebVote. In Bridgewater, 357 residents have already voted with 305 via Internet and 52 over the phone. E-voting in the Town of Bridgewater and Municipality of Chester will continue until October 20th and October 18th respectively. Meanwhile, advanced polls will also open tomorrow for residents who live within the Municipality of Lunenburg and Town of Mahone Bay. Voting those those jurisdictions will take place between 12PM and 8PM on Saturday with the traditional paper ballot system in place.

Lunenburg Mayoralty Candidate Says She Has The Right Stuff

 For the first time in more than a generation, the municipal election ballot in Lunenburg will "not" contain the name ... Laurence Mawhinney! The venerable mayor of 33 years is retiring and "that" has some people in the town concerned about life after the MaWhinney era. However, mayoralty candidate Rachel Bailey says no fears .... she's ready to step up to the plate and take-on the challenge.



Bailey has experience on Lunenburg town council and as deputy-mayor. Ron Stockton is the other candidate seeking to replace Laurence MaWhinney. Election day is October 20th.

Health Authority Earns Highest Accreditation Level

South Shore Health has received a distinction few organizations can boast about. The authority has been accredited with exemplary standing. It's the highest honour possible from Accreditation Canada. CEO for South Shore Health, Peter Vaughan, says staff is well-deserving of the honour.



Vaughan says they moved up to exemplary standing after developing strategies to address issues in patient identification and client and families role in safety. He says this is the first time South Shore Health has received the recognition.

Yarmouth Company Providing South Shore Shuttle

A surprising twist came out of Thursday night's Utility and Review Board hearing in Bridgewater on a new regional bus service. Trius Tours was looking to abandon their service on the South Shore, but instead, Yarmouth-based Bernie's Shuttle Service has stepped up and will carry-on the service. The company has one eight-passenger and two six-passenger vehicles to service the route to Halifax. Owner Bernie Melanson says it's a new challenge.



Meanwhile, Trius Tours owner, Mike Cassidy, says the timing of Acadian Lines decision to shut down its business played a factor in abandoning service to the South Shore.



Melanson says its too early to say where the route will stop or how much it will cost. He looks forward to providing the service and feels its important to local residents.

Gas Prices Fall (& Rise) At South Shore Pumps

As expected, gasoline prices have decreased overnight on the South Shore. One particular grade is up though. While regular self serve is down almost 4.5 cents a litre, diesel is up almost 3 cents. Self serve regular is a dollar-37-point-3 while diesel is selling at a dollar-38. High test gas is also down a bit this morning.

Shelburne Candidate Seeks Economic Revival

A candidate for mayor in the Town of Shelburne is making economic growth a keystone of her campaign. Karen Mattatall is a veteran of the Tri-County School Board and a member of town council. She says the area economy is in bad shape with too many young people moving away for jobs when they should be able to get one locally.



Mattatall says she wants to have an open approach to the mayor's office with public consultations in the decision-making process. Also running for mayor in the October 20th elections are incumbent Al Delaney, former mayor Parker Comeau and town councillor Bob Sinden.

Controversy Surrounds MODL Mayoral Debate

There's some controversy over a decision by the hosts of last night's mayoral debate at Park View Education Centre. Kirk Meisner is seeking the mayor's chair in the Municipality of Lunenburg but wasn't able to attend last night's debate because he had a campaign fundraiser on the same night. Instead, it was agreed Meisner's campaign manager - Lydia Early - would take his place but a last minute decision from the Bridgewater and Area Chamber of Commerce nixed that from happening. Early says she was blind sided by the move because the two parties had agreed to have a substitute represent the Meisner camp.



Early wants an apology from the BACC. She feel the chamber was pressured into making the decision. Meisner is taking on Don Downe for the position - who was allowed to participate in the debate. Mayoral candidates for the Town of Bridgewater - David Walker and Gary MacNeil - also squared off at the event.

Power Outage Affecting Bridgewater Area

Close to 2,000 people are without power in the Bridgewater-area at this time. Nova Scotia Power is reporting outages in New Germany, East Dalhousie, Springfield, Lower Cornwall and West Northfield. The outage happened just before 11am this morning. NSP is currently investigating the matter. They expect power to be restored by 1pm this afternoon. New Germany schools will be dismissing at noon due to the power outage.

Trius Tours Looking To Abandon South Shore Service

The South Shore could soon lose its lone bus service connecting it to the HRM. Trius Tours has submitted an application to abandon its service between Yarmouth and Halifax. A Utility and Review Board Hearing will be held in Bridgewater tonight to discuss the issue and focus on a new regional service. Municipality of Lunenburg Mayor Don Downe says they're opposed to the change.



Phone calls from our newsroom to reach Trius Tours owner Mike Cassidy have been unsuccessful. The hearing will be held at 7pm this evening at Bridgewater town hall.

Gasoline Prices May Drop Tomorrow

This may bode well for gasoline prices on the South Shore come tomorrow morning. In New Brunswick today, gas prices there are "down" considerably. The cost of regular self-serve dropped overnight by more than five cents, to just over a-dollar-35 a litre. That's after an increase last week of more than six cents a litre. Prices here on the South Shore also jumped last week by more than 4 cents a litre.

Shelburne RCMP Seize Contraband Cigarettes

Shelburne County RCMP have played a helping hand in seizing a large quantity of contraband cigarettes. Local members along with Colchester County RCMP apprehended more than 138,000 cigarettes after stopping a vehicle outside Truro late Tuesday night. Police also seized a 2007 Chevy Impala. Two men have been arrested and are scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court January 16, 2013.

VIDEO: School Board Candidates Forum In Queens

Queens County school board candidates voiced their opinions on several issues during a candidates forum Wednesday night at Liverpool High School. Four of the five candidates showed up to meet members of the public while Butch MacLeod was unavailable due to illness. The role of the school board, school review and school start times were some of the topics being talked about. Elliott Payzant says schools could open later.



Another candidate, Allan Foster, agrees.



The four candidates were also greeted with questions about representing the county, the idea of school board being televised and thoughts on in-camera sessions. Karen Ohrt says she wouldn't have a problem with meetings being video-taped or streamed online.

Roughly 20 people showed up to hear what the candidates had to say. School board elections will be held October 20.

Police: No Charges After Toddler Run Over

Bridgewater Police won't lay charges after a four-year-old boy was run over by a vehicle. Chief John Collyer says their investigation into Sunday's incident on Deepwood Crescent has wrapped up. He says the boy and his eight-year-old sister were by the vehicle when it started moving, narrowly missing the girl. Collyer says the incident was preventable.



The four-year-old boy was taken to South Shore Regional Hospital before being flown to the IWK in Halifax. Collyer says he hasn't received an update on the child since late Sunday and doesn't know if he is still in hospital or not.

South Shore Votes: Advance Polls Set To Open

Advance polls for the municipal and school board election will open on Thursday morning in a number of communities throughout the Shore Shore. Residents of the Town of Bridgewater and Municipality of Chester can cast their ballot through e-votes beginning at 8AM. Meanwhile, advance polls will also open tomorrow morning for residents in the Town of Clark's Harbour, Town of Lunenburg, Region of Queens, Town of Shelburne and Municipality of Shelburne. Voting takes place in those jurisdictions on Thursday from Noon until 8PM via the traditional paper ballot. Polling day is October 20th.

Polling Stations:

Town of Clarke's Harbour: - Royal Canadian Legion Building, 12 Kenny Street, Clark's Harbour. Voting takes place between the hours of 12PM-8PM

Town of Lunenburg: Lunenburg and District Fire Hall, 25 Medway Street, Lunenburg. Voting takes place between the hours of 12PM-8PM

Region of Queens: Greenfield Fire Hall, Milton Hall, West Queens Community Centre. Voting takes place between the hours of 12PM-8PM

Town of Shelburne: Shelburne Community Centre. Voting takes place between the hours of 12PM-8PM.

Municipality of the District of Shelburne: Municipal Public Works Building, 243 Sandy Point Road. Voting takes place between the hours of 12PM-8PM

Mayoral Candidates Square Off At Park View

An open forum will be held tonight featuring the mayoral candidates seeking the seat in the Municipality of Lunenburg and Town of Bridgewater. Don Downe and Kirk Meisner are squaring off for the MODL mayor's position. Downe is the incumbent and has held position since 2008. Meanwhile, David Walker and Gary MacNeil look for the seat in the Town of Bridgewater. The Bridgewater and Area Chamber of Commerce has organized the debate. It gets underway at 7 o'clock tonight from Park View Education Centre.

Publicover 'Grateful' For Time As Bridgewater Mayor

The mayor of Bridgewater struck the gavel for the final time Tuesday night, bringing an end to his more than 25 years in town politics. Carroll Publicover was first elected to Bridgewater council in 1985 before becoming deputy mayor in 1988. He served in that role and as a councillor until 2004 before becoming mayor. Publicover says he's grateful for his run as the town's chief magistrate.



Publicover shied away from commenting on his post-election plans but hinted he has a few irons in the fire. Council will hold a wrap-up meeting and swear-in the newly elected council November 5.

Major Donation To Queens Health Project

There's been a significant donation toward a major project in Liverpool. The Kinsmen have presented a cheque for 10-thousand dollars toward the Queens General Health Project. Club President Michael Morton says its a sample of what the Kinsmen are all about helping the community in any way they can.



The Kinsmen raised the money through various club projects like their chip-booth, bottle drives, bingo and other projects over the past year.

School Board Forum In Queens

A moderated forum will be held tonight in Liverpool for the five people vying for the lone Queens County seat on the South Shore Regional School Board. Courtney Wentzell, Elliott Payzant, Karen Ohrt, Butch MacLeod and Allan Foster will be present to give people a chance to meet the candidates and ask them questions. The Liverpool Regional High School Advisory Council is hosting the forum tonight at the high school from 7-9pm.
