Bridgewater: Operating Rooms Temporarily Closed
Dozens of surgeries scheduled to take place at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater have been put on hold until later in the week. South Shore Health says their three operating rooms are temporarily closed so workers can make emergency repairs to the hospital's air exchange system. Up to 50 patients scheduled for elective procedures could be impacted. VP of Health Services Lynn Farrell says proper air exchange is critical to prevent infection. Emergency surgeries will take place at the hospital's obstetrics unit and if needed nearby health authorities in the province have offered support. Farrell says affected patients will be contacted and surgeries will be rebooked. Officials estimate surgeries will resume by Thursday.
