A former mayor of Bridgewater wants to see the paving of Dominion Street complete. Ernie Bolivar sent an email to the town, asking council to include paving into their capital work for their upcoming budget. He says the street has very heavy traffic and the situation must be corrected. Current Mayor David Walker agrees.
The street was never fully repaved after work was done to install a new sewer pipe in 2012. Walker suggests repaving costs could be around $250,000. He says there was talk of completing the work in phases, but feels the cost needs to be reviewed.

A 33 year old Saskatoon man has been charged with aggravated assault in
connection with a missing person investigation.
The man is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court Friday, February 28, 2014 at 9:30 a.m.
The charge was laid following an investigation into the disappearance of 28 year old Gregory "Myles" MacIntosh. Myles MacIntosh was reported missing when he failed to return home after attending an Idylwyld Drive bar on February 1, 2014. Investigation found that MacIntosh was asked to leave the bar following some sort of disturbance. He then boarded a pub crawl bus which was traveling to an east side bar. Police were called to an altercation between two men on the same bus minutes later, at the intersection of Lorne Avenue and 8th Street East. Based on numerous witness statements investigators believe one of those men was Myles MacIntosh, however when officers arrived Mr. MacIntosh had left the scene on foot. Following that, a report was received that a person had fallen into the South Saskatchewan River. A search was conducted by emergency responders, however no one was located. The following day, Saskatoon Police located blood evidence on the ice where the person was last seen. That evidence was sent for testing which, this week, has been confirmed to be that of Myles MacIntosh. Saskatoon Police would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance in this investigation.

South Shore Health CEO Dr. Peter Vaughan gives full marks to the McNeil government for daring to open up the system for scrutiny.

Chester: Wind Project Enters Sewer Rate Discussion
A Chester councillor feels the South Canoe Wind project could help solve problems with sewer rates. Brad Armstrong suggested the option because five of six sewer systems are in a deficit position. The municipality is proposing a universal tax rate and few councillors seemed to lend an ear to Armstrong's idea. He was under the impression they backed the wind project to help taxpayers in the area.
Deputy Warden Floyd Shatford disagrees. He feels it doesn't make sense to take tax dollars from the wind farm to cover sewer rates.
The issue will be back in front of council next week.

Will New Yarmouth Ferry Service Meet May 1 Startup?
Will the Yarmouth to Maine ferry service be able to meet the May 1st startup date? That question is haunting business and politcal leaders in Nova Scotia now that the province has been asked for financial guarantees for refunding cancelled trips. The ferry operator, Nova Star Cruises, has even removed passenger fare information on the route from its webside. Progressive Conservative House Leader Chris d'Entremont says the government needs to clarify whether or not May first is in jeopardy.
d'Entremont says if the province looks after the refund, will that be in addition to the 21-million dollars already guaranteed as backing for the service? He also says a problem like this, so late in the game indicates to him, closing the deal last fall with ferry operator, Nova Star Cruises, was a rushed job.

Chester: Worms Could Become Future Composting Source
The future of large-scale composting in Chester could be in worms. A group of students from Dalhousie University introduced vermicomposting to the municipality, which uses worms to consume organic waste. Councillor Andre Veinotte proposed the idea. He challenged the students to find a less labour-intensive operation.
The students have designed a machine and are looking to begin testing in early March. Veinotte says it could be a good fit, but they need to make sure it makes sense.
The municipality currently spends $200,000 a year to deal with organic waste. Vermicomposting would cut down that cost and make its way to Kaizer Meadow.
